Immigration

Immigration “Crisis” is the fear that the United States was being taken over by foreigners

This was a common ideology for many people throughout our country’s history. It relates to the Sacco and Vanzetti case because there was a fear of immigration during that time as well, which explains why many people were so quick to blame two immigrants who weren’t commonly accepted in their society. During the time of Sacco and Vanzetti, most immigrants were coming from Europe, which led to the fear of some ethnic groups, including Italians.

According to the article, our country is now seeing an influx of immigrants coming from places such as Latin America and Asia. This worries some US citizens because some believe that immigrants bring drugs and crime with them, while others are concerned that they will lose jobs to newcomers. Some people who were alarmed by this “claimed that immigrants were arriving in such large numbers, with cultures that were so foreign to the existing culture of the United States, that they could not be assimilated readily into American culture.” This can help to explain why people feel a certain way about immigration, which can help us understand how Americans felt in the past about it. They were fearful of losing their culture to a foreign one, and although this isn’t an excuse for racism and fear of immigrants, it can give somewhat of an explanation of sentiments and feelings towards immigrants during the early 1900s.
